                                                                     Temple View Drive, East Side of Provo Temple

     On October 1, 2011, President Thomas S. Monson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the Provo tabernacle (seriously damaged by a fire on December 17, 2010) would be rebuilt as the second temple in the city. Audible gasps of excitement rang throughout the crowd, and thousands across the valley celebrated the announcement. Coincidentally, it just so happens that the exact distance between the two Provo temples is a 5k. 

     In the same talk, President Monson announced the General Temple Patron Assistance Fund, which "provides a one-time visit to the the temple for those who otherwise would not be able to go to the temple and yet who long desperately for that opportunity." In the same moment we decided to organize a 5k, we also decided that all proceeds would go to this fund. What better way to show our appreciation for another temple in our midst than by giving the same opportunity to our less fortunate brothers and sisters?
